My name is Brandon King and you could call me a serial entrepreneur. I’ve started three companies over the years and am now working on my fourth – a mobile startup that’s still in stealth mode.
The mobile startup will launch with an iPhone app, an ASP.NET MVC website and a RESTful API to tie it all together in April, 2012. A little after that, we’ll release an Android app, followed by Windows Phone and Blackberry.
Peleta Software (my main company) was founded in 2008. We build custom software for our clients, using mostly .NET and SQL Server tools. I’ve had the privilege to work with and mentor some exceptional developers at Peleta.
Probably the coolest thing I’ve built was for a music store chain, a database application encompassing all music ever recorded. You could search it and answer questions like “How many bands was Eric Clapton a member of?” (Answer: at least 11 – see if you can figure out which ones!).
Another neat project was a mobile app for the oil and gas industry. The guys using it are around a lot of heavy machinery, so they needed a ruggedized Windows Mobile handheld. Most oil and gas rigs are in remote places, so the app needed to batch-up its updates and wait until there was a cell signal before sending them back to the server.
About three years ago, I organized the Ozarks .NET User Group. The ODNUG hosted a big annual event with Claudio Lassala and a ton of prizes. Another big occasion was when Dona Bailey, creator of Atari’s Centipede, came to speak. We actually gave away a vintage Centipede arcade machine that night!
My software development career began at Data-tronics back on January 8th, 1996. I was there for over four years, eventually winding-up in the training department to teach web development. You can still see some of my handiwork on the ABF Freight Systems website. Some of the first classic ASP and JavaScript code I ever wrote is still being used!
